Hacienda222 is located in the beautiful coastal town of Isabela in West Puerto Rico, an absolute gem! As Bad Bunny says in his song “Me fui de vacaciones,” you can see paradise when you arrive in Isabela. The New York Times also highlighted Isabela as a great travel destination. We love to share our little corner of paradise with our guests at Hacienda222!
When most people think of Puerto Rico, they think of San Juan, with its historical forts and blue cobblestone streets. But the true treasure of Puerto Rico lies outside the big city. In Isabela, you’ll find pristine, deserted beaches, friendly locals, and authentic Puerto Rican fare. There is so much to do in and near our small town that we’d love to share with you! Here is a 3-day itinerary for your visit to Isabela, Puerto Rico:
Day 1: Getting to know Isabela, Puerto Rico
Start off your day getting acquainted with Isabela. Start your day off with breakfast with a stunning view of beaches of Isabela, at Bella Mar. Lean into island life with a slow breakfast, sipping coffee or enjoying a mojito while whale watching or checking out the swell rolling.
Continue getting into vacation mode with a relaxing day at Playa Montones, where the rock formations create a natural pool perfect for relaxing or exploring or snorkelling in the shallow, protected water. If you’d like access to restrooms, paid parking is available at Villas del Mar Hau ($10 in 2025) or you can park where the locals park and walk in down a slightly sketchy path.
Go beach bar hopping at Jobos beach. There are several bars in walking distance. Among them are Kai, Uma’s, Sonido del Mar, and Palo. So many great spots right on the water. Why not check them all out?!
Day 2: Live like a local
If you want to get to know the real Puerto Rico, you are in the right place. Nothing could be more authentic than grabbing breakfast at a local bakery or panaderia. There is one on just about any corner and they are open every day of the year (restaurants in the west are often closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). Stop at Pan Sobao Bakery for coffee, a pastry, or a breakfast sandwich on your way to Jobos Beach. Jobos (pronounced ‘hoboes’) is a world-famous surf spot. You can enjoy the beautiful views under the shady palm trees, take a short walk over to the Pozo de Jacinto for a photo op, or, if you are feeling adventurous, take surf lessons.
After your beach day stop by La Parada de Los Surfers for a fried meat pie, locally called a pastelillos. Pastelillos typical food served for breakfast or lunch filled with crab, fish, meat etc.
For dinner, splurge at Jota by Chef Jeremie at Royal Isabela. Reservations are required, and definitely go early to enjoy the view before the sun goes down.
Day 3: From the forest to the beach
Take a morning hike in the Bosque Guajataca. Check out the Cueva del Viento, a stunning natural cave.
For lunch, try authentic Puerto Rican mofongo (a traditional Puerto Rican dish made from mashed plantains) at the award-winning By Cheff’s restaurant. It’s a casual food truck that consistently wins awards.
In the evening, take a sunset tour of local beaches. Make your first stop at Tu Mojito, where you can choose from more than forty flavors, and then head down the hill to Isabela’s beaches, Puerto Rico’s best. Playa Princesa is at the end of the road. Starting from there, you can stop at Villa Pesquera, Pozo Teodoro, and Swallow’s pool.
If you had a few more days, we’d tell you to check out the Isabela Plaza (Friday nights are Salsa Nights), visit Guajataca Tunnel, swim at Gozalandia Falls, or see the historical sites of San Antonio de Tuna, or Castillo Labilde.
