It’s convenient!
The first reason Puerto Rico is a good place for a destination wedding is that, while it is a beautiful and culturally rich location, as a US territory, many things are the same as in the US. This makes travel so easy for you and your guests, even those who don’t have much travel experience.
For example, in Puerto Rico, we use the same phone plans as the mainland, so cell phones work without additional fees. The currency here is the dollar, so you won’t have to deal with exchanging money. Many people on the island speak English. We also have stores familiar on the mainland, like Walmart and Walgreens, making it easy to navigate a quick trip to the store.
It’s a short flight!
One of the great things about getting married in Puerto Rico is the ease of travel. Puerto Rico is a short flight from most east coast hubs. There are two convenient international airports near Hacienda222 (as well as our beach venue locations). One is a little less than two hours away in San Juan (SJU), and the other is just 15 minutes away (BQN). Insider tip: locals use either, depending on where they get the better deal.
Because Puerto Rico is a US territory, you don’t need a passport to travel here. Puerto Rico a great exotic destination for guests who have not traveled outside of the continental US before. At Tiffany and Craig’s wedding (shown below), many of their guests had never traveled outside of their state before!
It’s affordable!
Often listed as one of the more affordable islands in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico offers a selection of excellent hotels, resorts, and vacation rentals for any group or budget.
Amazing culture!
We can’t talk about why Puerto Rico is a good place for a destination wedding without mentioning the amazing culture! Something about the slower pace of island life makes everyone a little kinder. The people of Puerto Rico are warm and welcoming; it’s even common to say hello to strangers as you pass and to say “Buen Provecho” when entering or leaving an eating establishment.

The temperature in Puerto Rico only varies by about 15 degrees year-round. Plan a winter wedding, and you’ll be greeted by beautiful summer weather, no matter the season. Even in the summertime, trade winds hold the hot sun at bay. Every season is perfect for a wedding in Puerto Rico!
